C6 ~ Officially Reading
My daughter, C6, just finished reading her very first chapter book. She is ever so proud of herself and was excited to get her initials written at the back of the book showing that SHE finished it in grade one while her two older brothers read it in grade two. She was thrilled when I handed her the second in the series.
In our homeschool, each child is taught phonics in kindergarten and grade one and is officially declared a “reader” as soon as he or she completes a chapter book. We continue to practice phonics. Boxcar Children and Bobbsey Twins books are great beginner chapter books. Others include the Magic Treehouse series and Great Illustrated Classics.
I highly recommend the ABeka phonics and reading program, especially after successfully using it to teach three children to read.
