“There is a 2 percent drop in breast cancer risk for each five months of breastfeeding.”
” It has long been known that the fewer menstrual cycles a woman has over the course of her life, the lower the risk of breast cancer.”
“Breast-fed infants are less likely to become obese.”

Sadly, breastfeeding doesn’t exempt one from breast cancer. I nursed my daughter for twenty-eight months. She is now almost four. My breast cancer was a very small but highly aggresive tumor. I had a complete mastectomy and for now am cancer-free. However, because of the aggressiveness I stand a very high risk of metastasis within the next ten years. The breast cancer per se is not what kills you, it’s the distant metastasis. I pray for peace every day because it is a very strong temptation for me to worry for my life and for my children. Despite the cancer and the mastectomy, I am choosing to forego chemotherapy and radiation to nurse my little nine-month old baby who has spastic quadriplegia and aspiration syndrome due to a birth injury and really needs my milk. I pray the Lord keeps me around for as long as this baby needs my milk. To God be the glory.
