No Fear Hallowe'en Fun
The six of us (and Nana) went on our annual trick-or-treating rounds last night. During the drive up around the river, we make the same jokes year after year. We visit all the “old folks” in the extended family.
Huckleberry Hound (Papa’s puppet) was dressed as a clown and was met by cheers and giggles from the children. When we stopped at my great-aunt’s house, I asked her to be my accomplice in crime by sparing a roll of toilet paper, so I could T.P. Melanie’s car. At another great aunt’s, we asked to borrow a spoon, so Derek could tease his mother about her fudge which usually needs to be eaten with a spoon. Almost every house served us homemade fudge. Elizabeth gave us a little fireworks show. We visited my baby niece who was dressed in the same little pumpkin costume that all four of my babies wore at her age.
I’m sorry to report that the drive home was roadblock-free. We ate junk all the way home and then dumped the rest on the living room floor as usual. We made a big pile for Derek to take to work, and after eating lots and saving some, we went to bed.
As a Christian family, we have long ago claimed Hallowe’en as a good, fun, and fearless tradition that has resulted in many happy memories.

That sounds great. We’re still sorting out our feelings on Halloween, but this year the little guy was too young to care anyway, so we just went for a nice long walk instead. Your kids look great – love the princess dress!
Hooray!
The boys wanted to be John McCain (and hand out literature as they trickortreated) but we couldn’t find any masks! Then they raided their costume chest, but sadly didn’t have four costumes to make.
While I feel like a Halloween scrooge, we had to pass on buying costumes this year (but bought extra candy) and the boys handed it out to the children who came calling — and divided up the rest. They were happy.
That sounds awesome! We usually do the rounds of our neighbours, but this year, we opted for a ‘Scary Party’ at my sister’s house with all the cousins. The kids had a blast!
Thanks, Cynthia.
TulipGirl, “and hand out literature as they trickortreated”
I LOVE the political activism convictions.
Adeena, That sounds really great.
Nice costumes! That’s quite the princess dress.
Thanks. C7 loved it. We had fun.
I was a Morticia Addams/Scarlett O’Hara/Queen Esther combo. Can’t you tell?
Great picture! I love when the parents join in on dressing up, too.

I’d like to shout a big AMEN to that one!
Nice hair, Carol.
I love it too when the parents dress up. Grammy started that tradition in our family. But at least nobody has behaved as badly as “Old Joe.”
Grampie wanted me to be Ol’ Joe this year, but I didn’t think I had the acting talent.
Now, I could have easily have acted an old something else!
Or Joe the Plumber, Joe Six-Pack, or the scariest, Joe Biden.
Great costumes.
I am glad there wasn’t any roadblocks.lol ( which are sooo stupid!!)
My boys had fun going around our neighbourhood with friends.. mostly they were excited to just see everyone out and about. Even DH had fun talking to all the parents.I stayed home dressed up with a decorated house and loved seeing all the kids I now know in the neighbourhood and from the school.
