My friend has serious health problems. She had her first doctor appointment here in Canada for her issues last September 2008. She waited until January 2009 for her ultrasound appointment. Then she waited until mid-March for an appointment with an OB/GYN. Then, she finally had surgery in JUNE! And I thought waiting three hours at the hospital was a long time!

Nice to meet you, Chelle. I am sorry for your loss.

I had a miscarriage this spring. I called my doctor (here in Canada) and I had to wait a few days for my appointment. (no ultrasound done) A couple months later, I requested an ultrasound because I had discomfort and at this appointment, the doctor told me I would have to wait up to TWO MONTHS for an ultrasound (in Canada). I told her that I had FOUR children and during each of those pregnancies, they PUSHED ultrasounds on me and I always refused them, but now, when I actually need one, I have to wait two months?? After I said that, I know she pulled some strings and I got the ultrasound less than two weeks later (but that's still a while when you are worried and in pain).

Here in Canada, we don't have the choice to pay for better, faster treatment.

At the same time, I spent several hundreds of dollars on alternative health care related to healing after the miscarriage.

I know people who go to the US for care and treatment that is unavailable here.

I agree we need to advocate for healthcare reform, however i have lived in the US and their system is MUCH MUCH worse off than ours. The incompetence, long waits and inefficiency is there too. I had to wait for ultrasounds and treatment because I did not have uber insurance. Imagine receiving a $3000 bill after experiencing a miscarriage.

I would like to see more alternative health care in Canada's system and therefore we NEED to make it happen.
