Mayim Bialik aka “Blossom”: Celebrity “poster mom” for attachment parenting
http://www.examiner.com/x-17929-Denver-Attachment-Parenting–Examiner~y2009m8d28-Mayim-Bialik-aka-Blossom-Poster-mom-for-attachment-parenting
“Mayim Bialik, star of the hit 90′s TV series “Blossom,” has talked openly about her “strange” parenting practices. While many celebrities give a nod to breastfeeding, Bialik has made a true commitment to the attachment parenting lifestyle. She says she has researched her approach to parenting and chosen what she believes is best for her family. And research is something Bialik, or I should say Dr. Bialik, knows something about. She has a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA.
“So what is it that Dr. Bialik has decided is best for her family? She practices extended breastfeeding (she nursed her oldest son until he was 2), babywearing and elimination communication. She is a huge proponent of home birth and her second son was born at home. They all share a family bed. Though her oldest son is only 3.5, they are part of a homeschooling community and are considering that a viable option for later schooling.”
‘Spotlight to Nightlight’: Mayim Bialik: From Teen Icon to Unconventional Mom
http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/goddess/spotlight-to-nightlight-mayim-bialik-from-teen-icon-to-unconventional-mom/270?nc
“There are so many interesting/somewhat controversial things that she is doing with her family: elimination communication, bed sharing, home schooling, home birth, and choosing not to vaccinate her kids.”

What I appreciated the most from learning about Dr. Mayim Bialik’s parenting choices is that she arrived at them through RESEARCH.
In my experience, parenting decisions that have been influenced by RESEARCH, unwounded INTUITION, and CHRISTIANITY all arrive at the same place, ATTACHMENT PARENTING.

Seizing newborns an ethical minefield
Protection Province has means, but using them controversial, ethicists say
http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/front/article/775621
“McGill University ethicist Margaret Somerville believes governments should consider laws to identify unborn children as human beings with the right to protection…”
“The Supreme Court of Canada has consistently ruled that, under current laws, the fetus does not exist as a human being needing protection, and the Criminal Code holds that a child becomes a human being for the purposes of a homicide offence only after it is born alive.”

Reincarnated! Our son is a World War II pilot come back to life

“A lifelong Christian, it was not the answer he had sought for his son’s behaviour…”
“As the nightmares continued, she asked him: ‘Who is the little man?’”
“‘Me,’ he answered. His father asked: ‘What happened to your plane?’”
“James replied: ‘It crashed on fire.’”
“‘Why did your plane crash?’”
“‘It got shot,’ he said.”
“‘Who shot your plane?’”
“James made a disgusted face. ‘The Japanese!’ he said, with indignation…”
“Next, little James unnerved his father by telling him: ‘I knew you would be a good daddy, that’s why I picked you.’”
“‘Where did you find us?’ asked a shaken Bruce.”
“‘In Hawaii, at the pink hotel, on the beach,’ he replied. Eerily, he described his parents’ fifth wedding anniversary – five weeks before Andrea got pregnant – saying it was when he ‘chose’ them to bring him back into the world.”

WPXI-TV: “According to court documents filed by Pittsburgh Public School District attorneys, the teacher was fired on Aug. 27, 2008, because her ‘…conduct was wholly unauthorized and was beyond the scope of her employment with the school district and was the direct cause of her dismissal.’ The boy’s family is asking for $125,000 for the assault and emotional distress suffered, but they are also looking to press criminal charges.”

Ghostly Companions
Survivors of extreme situations—on Everest and elsewhere—credit the help of a ‘third man’ who is not there.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204884404574361631588827614.html?mod=rss_opinion_main
“In ‘The Third Man Factor,’ John Geiger, a fellow at the University of Toronto, presents many accounts of such experiences, and not only from climbers. Among those who have felt a ghostly companionship he cites Charles Lindbergh on his solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927 and the last man to walk out of the South Tower of the World Trade Center before it collapsed on 9/11. ‘Over the years,’ Mr. Geiger writes, “the experience has occurred again and again, not only to 9/11 survivors, mountaineers, and divers, but also to polar explorers, prisoners of war, solo sailors, shipwreck survivors, aviators, and astronauts. All have escaped traumatic events only to tell strikingly similar stories of having experienced the close presence of a companion and helper.’”
Reminds me of this Bible story:
“Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, ‘Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?’ They replied, ‘Certainly, O king.’ He said, ‘Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’”

“It’s the end of summer
When you send your children to the moon.”
Dar Williams, The End Of The Summer
I find it very discouraging that after 20 years of being involved in the homeschooling movement, people still seem to know very little about homeschooling. The most basic things are completely misunderstood. The “go-to-school” method is so entrenched that not only is it never questioned, but zealously defended in spite of its shortcomings.
Although you can choose to “teach” your children when homeschooling, I find it confusing that so many people are surprised that children can learn without a teacher. Imagine this example: Take a quality mathbook. Read the first lesson. Do the problems. Keep going through mathbooks until you finish Algebra, Advanced Math, Calculus, etc. Apply this to other subjects. It works.
“The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.”
Robert Maynard Hutchins“I am beginning to suspect all elaborate and special systems of education. They seem to me to be built upon the supposition that every child is a kind of idiot who must be taught to think.”
Anne Sullivan
“All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education.”Sir Walter Scott“I learned most, not from those who taught me but from those who talked with me.”

Flowers are Red ~ Harry Chapin
FLOWERS ARE RED
Harry Chapin
The little boy went first day of school
He got some crayons and started to draw
He put colors all over the paper
For colors was what he saw
And the teacher said… What you doin’ young man
I’m paintin’ flowers he said
She said… It’s not the time for art young man
And anyway flowers are green and red
There’s a time for everything young man
And a way it should be done
You’ve got to show concern for everyone else
For you’re not the only one
And she said…
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy said…
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
Well the teacher said… You’re sassy
There’s ways that things should be
And you’ll paint flowers the way they are
So repeat after me…
And she said…
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy said…
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
The teacher put him in a corner
She said… It’s for your own good…
And you won’t come out ’til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said… and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen
Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
The teacher there was smilin’
She said… Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
So let’s use every one
But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said… and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.

The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform PRESS RELEASE! – SAYING NO TO “OBAMA-CARE”
http://abortionno.org/blog/?p=562
“The far left’s campaign to hijack the nation’s health care system is diabolically clever. Mr. Obama is the increasingly scary pitchman whose game is ‘hide the ball.’ He diverts attention from the malfeasance of congressional co-conspirators who draft abortion and euthanasia bills which carefully avoid trigger words such as words ‘abortion’ and ‘euthanasia.’”
“These Culture-of-Death lawmakers quietly confer on unelected bureaucrats the authority to later broaden abortion access and ration elder care (amounting to constructive euthanasia). All-the-while, the state-run media parrots White House talking points and Democrat Members of Congress hide from constituents whose patriotism and virtue they question when any dare resist.”
