"Politicians are absolutely terrified of touching any of these issues."
Seizing newborns an ethical minefield
Protection Province has means, but using them controversial, ethicists say

“McGill University ethicist Margaret Somerville believes governments should consider laws to identify unborn children as human beings with the right to protection…”
“The Supreme Court of Canada has consistently ruled that, under current laws, the fetus does not exist as a human being needing protection, and the Criminal Code holds that a child becomes a human being for the purposes of a homicide offence only after it is born alive.”

This does NOT protect the needs of women. Under this set of rules, women can be attacked in the stomach until they miscarry a wanted fetus, and there will be no penalties for the attacker for this. Maybe an assault charge, but nothing that reflects the loss for the woman. The jerk doesn’t have to pay at all for the pain he caused her. Just a slap on the wrist for him.
And if the woman dies in the attack, the woman’s family has lost two people. But this is not recognized. Only one person is recognized for a family that has lost two. Half of their grief is denied by the society. This is NOT justice folks.
