I am writing this note for those who are new to my site and are looking for access to the personal posts. Even if you register and log in, the private posts will only appear if you comment or email me, and I manually approve your name. When I do approve your name, then you will see all the pictures and notes, particularly under Journal 2008 and 2009. I have made very few private posts this summer, since I mostly use Facebook for that sort of thing. I have lots of pictures from our summer that I will eventually post privately on my website.

AUTISTIC CHILD BEING ASSAULTED BY HIS TEACHER OF PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOL

WPXI-TV: “According to court documents filed by Pittsburgh Public School District attorneys, the teacher was fired on Aug. 27, 2008, because her ‘…conduct was wholly unauthorized and was beyond the scope of her employment with the school district and was the direct cause of her dismissal.’ The boy’s family is asking for $125,000 for the assault and emotional distress suffered, but they are also looking to press criminal charges.”

    Ghostly Companions
Survivors of extreme situations—on Everest and elsewhere—credit the help of a ‘third man’ who is not there.
    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204884404574361631588827614.html?mod=rss_opinion_main

“In ‘The Third Man Factor,’ John Geiger, a fellow at the University of Toronto, presents many accounts of such experiences, and not only from climbers. Among those who have felt a ghostly companionship he cites Charles Lindbergh on his solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927 and the last man to walk out of the South Tower of the World Trade Center before it collapsed on 9/11. ‘Over the years,’ Mr. Geiger writes, “the experience has occurred again and again, not only to 9/11 survivors, mountaineers, and divers, but also to polar explorers, prisoners of war, solo sailors, shipwreck survivors, aviators, and astronauts. All have escaped traumatic events only to tell strikingly similar stories of having experienced the close presence of a companion and helper.’”

Reminds me of this Bible story:

“Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, ‘Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?’ They replied, ‘Certainly, O king.’ He said, ‘Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’”

    Back to School Thoughts

    “It’s the end of summer
When you send your children to the moon.”

Dar Williams, The End Of The Summer

I find it very discouraging that after 20 years of being involved in the homeschooling movement, people still seem to know very little about homeschooling. The most basic things are completely misunderstood. The “go-to-school” method is so entrenched that not only is it never questioned, but zealously defended in spite of its shortcomings.

Although you can choose to “teach” your children when homeschooling, I find it confusing that so many people are surprised that children can learn without a teacher. Imagine this example: Take a quality mathbook. Read the first lesson. Do the problems. Keep going through mathbooks until you finish Algebra, Advanced Math, Calculus, etc. Apply this to other subjects. It works.

“The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.”
    Robert Maynard Hutchins

“I am beginning to suspect all elaborate and special systems of education. They seem to me to be built upon the supposition that every child is a kind of idiot who must be taught to think.”
    Anne Sullivan

“All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education.”
    Sir Walter Scott

“I learned most, not from those who taught me but from those who talked with me.”
    St. Augustine

Flowers are Red ~ Harry Chapin

    FLOWERS ARE RED
    Harry Chapin

The little boy went first day of school
He got some crayons and started to draw
He put colors all over the paper
For colors was what he saw
And the teacher said… What you doin’ young man
    I’m paintin’ flowers he said
She said… It’s not the time for art young man
And anyway flowers are green and red
There’s a time for everything young man
And a way it should be done
You’ve got to show concern for everyone else
For you’re not the only one

    And she said…
    Flowers are red young man
    Green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen

    But the little boy said…
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

Well the teacher said… You’re sassy
There’s ways that things should be
And you’ll paint flowers the way they are
    So repeat after me…

    And she said…
    Flowers are red young man
    Green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen

    But the little boy said…
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

The teacher put him in a corner
    She said… It’s for your own good…
And you won’t come out ’til you get it right
And are responding like you should
    Well finally he got lonely
    Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said… and he said

Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen

Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
    The teacher there was smilin’
She said… Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
    So let’s use every one

But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said… and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There’s no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.

Barack Obama: Pulling the Wool Over Your Eyes

    | August 22, 2009

The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform PRESS RELEASE! – SAYING NO TO “OBAMA-CARE”
    http://abortionno.org/blog/?p=562

“The far left’s campaign to hijack the nation’s health care system is diabolically clever. Mr. Obama is the increasingly scary pitchman whose game is ‘hide the ball.’ He diverts attention from the malfeasance of congressional co-conspirators who draft abortion and euthanasia bills which carefully avoid trigger words such as words ‘abortion’ and ‘euthanasia.’”

“These Culture-of-Death lawmakers quietly confer on unelected bureaucrats the authority to later broaden abortion access and ration elder care (amounting to constructive euthanasia). All-the-while, the state-run media parrots White House talking points and Democrat Members of Congress hide from constituents whose patriotism and virtue they question when any dare resist.”

Barack Obama: "Reproductive care (Abortion) is at the center and at the heart of the plan I propose."

    | August 20, 2009

If you are at all familiar with pro-choice lingo, then you easily recognize the terms they use to talk about abortion without using dirty words. The terms “reproductive rights” and “reproductive care” have been used by groups like Planned Parenthood for at least as long as I have been involved in the pro-life movement (1983-84).

Obama to Planned Parenthood in 2007: “Reproductive care” is at the center of my health-care plan
    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/20/obama-to-planned-parenthood-in-2007-reproductive-care-is-at-the-center-of-my-health-care-plan/

“In my mind, reproductive care is essential care. It is basic care. It is at the center and at the heart of the plan that I propose… It will be a plan that will provide ALL essential services, including reproductive services…” Barack Obama 2007

In that 2007 speech, he basically went on to tell Planned Parenthood that he won’t be putting them completely out of business. They will still play a part.

‘We are God’s partners in matters of life and death’
    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0809/We_are_Gods_partners_in_matters_of_life_and_death.html

“We are God’s partners in matters of life and death,” Obama said, according to Moline (paging Sarah Palin…), quoting from the Rosh Hashanah prayer that says that in the holiday period, it is decided “who shall live and who shall die.”
