They didn't necessarily like it because it worked incrementally, rather than in one fell swoop - but the ground work he laid down was very very important. He also worked to make adoption easier, upheld the Mexico City policy, and worked to pave the way for other steps to outlaw abortion. (Parental notification laws, Born Alive Infant Act, etc.) I never understood how people could say that he did nothing.
