“Pregnant women should be forgiven if they flout parking rules while struggling to the shops.”
“‘Allowing a heavily pregnant woman to park outside a shop for a few minutes is a sensible thing to do. It is a case of getting that balance right.’”
“‘Some women when they are pregnant can have conditions that make walking extremely painful. For them, it would be a godsend.’”
It’s funny that I actually noticed this “problem” during the past couple months. I would try to park as close as possible to the store, and the mother/child spots were ALWAYS full or non-existent, and the handicapped ones are illegal unless you have a handicap permit. I do NOT begrudge the disabled the best parking places – not at all. But when I would get out of my vehicle and struggle to painfully waddle into the store anxious to lean on a shopping cart, many times I saw a sprightly older couple hang their disabled sign and walk into the store just as easily as can be. I’m not complaining, I’m just feeling the pain of the extra steps. Most of the time I shouldn’t have even been at the store myself because I felt like I was going to faint, and walking has been very painful to say the least.
