TYPICAL DAY IN GRADE EIGHT
I asked my son to write down what he did on a typical day in grade eight for schoolwork.
“I usually start school at 9:00 and begin by praying, listening to Bible cassette, and reading several pages of a theology type of book (right now - The New Fox’s Book of Martyrs). Then I do Latin (Wheelock’s Latin), Literature (right now - Western Civilization), and Science (Exploring Creation with Physical Science). It varies when I do Algebra (Saxon Algebra 2), but I usually do it when my brother is not in the room so I can concentrate better.”
“After lunch I either study Greek (Basics of Biblical Greek) and Logic (Material Logic) textbooks or (if the computer is free) do the exercises. Then I do both Omnibus primary (this week - The Divine Comedy: Inferno) and secondary (this week - Henry V).”
“At 3:00 I wrap up by doing Grammar (Rod & Staff English Handbook), Music (Piano for Life DVD), and Writing (Writer’s Inc. and creative writing). My mother calls out Spelling (commonly misspelled words), Vocabulary (Robinson Vocabulary), and holds up my Greek and Latin flashcards.”
“Sometimes, in the evening, I do the next day’s Music lesson, Grammar, Latin, etc. and read the assigned Omnibus books.”
