Homeschooling High School and Preparing for University

In our homeschool, certain basic courses are compulsory while others are optional in grades nine through twelve.

These are the subjects required in our homeschool high school. For details about our specific curriculum choices, follow the links. (to be added later)

4 English (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12)
4 Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Math, and Calculus)
4 Science (Biology, Physics I, Physics II, and Chemistry I)
3 Social Studies (History, Canadian History, Law)
4 Religion (Grades 9, 10, 11, 12)
3 French (Levels I, II, III)
1 Communications
1 Computer Literacy
1 Physical Education
and more, along with several electives

We encourage you to keep records of the titles, publishers, and authors of all textbooks and books studied during the high school years, as well as student’s marks on courses. Keep a portfolio of exams, essays, reports, and other documents.

We recommend that homeschoolers contact the universities and colleges of their choice during the fall of grade eleven. This will give the homeschooler plenty of time to complete material required for university acceptance. It will also alert the university to be expecting you!

Homeschoolers have a wealth of choices when it comes to high school electives. Some subjects may need a full course for each of the four high school years, while others are partial courses lasting only a couple of months or a single semester. To determine whether an individual course has the value of a year-long, single term, or partial credit, examine the volume of material and length of study time.

Younger homeschoolers may also want to add electives to their work load as long as most of their time focuses on the basics.
